| As you can see,
it's quite a list - but there's more to come! If you're ever planning
on a trip into the wilds I'd certainly recommend that you make
sure you're well-stocked with recovery gear just in case you get caught
miles from anywhere. As you know, the bush is beautiful - but it's unforgiving
too. So apart from the already-mentioned winch, you should make sure you
have: |
-
Snatch block
-
Snatch strap
-
Tree trunk protector
|
-
2 Bow shackles
-
Long-handled shovel
-
Axe
|
-
Bow saw
-
Winch strap extension
-
Power Jac
|
| Then you'll
need to make sure you have a good tool kit with you. A really good
4WD tool kit should contain: |
-
Screw driver kit
-
Metric spanners (ring, flat
& socket)
-
Hacksaw and spare blades
-
Oil Syringe
-
Tyre removal & repair
kit
|
-
Circlip, pointy nose &
standard pliers
-
Electrical kit (inc. wire
strippers, fittings, cable
ties, test light and a
small reel of electrical
wire
-
Impact screw-driver
|
-
Claw hammer
-
Cordless drill & drill
bits
-
Multimeter
-
Wire brush
-
Multigrips
-
Jumper leads
-
Mash hammer
|
| Finally - to
cover all the bases - you should make sure you have a good supply of
spares: |
-
Radiator hoses
-
Heater hose
-
Fan belt
-
Power steering belt
-
Universal joint
-
Fuel filter
-
Oil filter
|
-
Wheel-bearings and
seals (for your vehicle & anything you're towing)
-
Wheel studs (for your
vehicle & anything you're towing)
-
Can of RP7 or similar
|
-
Appropriate workshop
manuals
-
Assorted nuts, bolts, screws
& nails
-
Fuses
-
Reel of tie-wire
-
5 litres of engine oil
-
5 litres of gear oil
|
| I hope this helps!
Please feel free to use this checklist any way you like. But
don't assume it's exhaustive. Depending on your trip, your
equipment and local conditions, there may be several other things
you should add to it. I've found the best way to have a safe, enjoyable 4WD
trip is to put in a little thinking time on it beforehand. I'm sure you will
too. Cheers! |
