We
transform a 2000 model Pajero GLS V6!
Follow the step by step transformation
as we take a stock standard NM Pajero and turn it into a sophisticated outback
tourer.

We start with a factory fresh
NM Pajero GLS with 3500cc V6 engine, Tiptronic automatic transmission and
optional passenger side air bag. Here you will note that the passenger type
road tyres have been replaced with larger 265/75 x 16 BF Goodrich Mud Terrains
to get some decent grip in the gooey stuff. These will go on some aftermarket
wheels, when they become available, so the quieter standard tyres can be
used around town. The increased ground clearance will add to the extra ability
that fully independent coil spring suspension gives this vehicle.
Next we need something to power all the electrical accessories we are going
to add. Our R&D department goes into full swing and produces an auxiliary
battery tray that mounts easily to existing mounting points in the vehicle.
A Rotronics RA100H charge management system takes care of the charging of
a 13 plate Yuasa heavy duty battery. $445 as
a kit less battery. $835 fitted (includes
wiring and auxiliary outlet in cargo area)
To find out where we are when we get geographically misplaced you can't beat
a Magellan GPS 315. Fitted here in the new release mounting bracket with
permanent power from the vehicle, the unit can be clipped in and out as easily
as a mobile phone. Then into a leather case and it can easily be carried
on a belt for bushwalking trips. We have had previous model Magellans but
this would be the easiest to use and most feature packed unit to date and
they work really well in this position without the need for external aerials.
$499
As well as 12 volt power some 240 volt power would be useful to run things
like lap top computers. Under the passenger seat is a good place for a Sinergex
300 watt inverter $149. With a continuous
rating of 300 watts and a peak rating of 500 watts this will be a useful
addition.Hard wired to the auxiliary battery with a remote switch neatly
placed in the centre console under the GME TX3200 UHF radio
$475. With less space to mount accessories
this unit is very compact but is still a fully featured scanning radio. Connected
to a GME multi stage aerial mounted at present on the inner mudguard ( no
bullbars etc available from anyone with light inserts) this is one of the
favourite radios on the market today. GME has been our radio of choice
for many years.
As with most new models there
are no gutters. Instead there are mounting points placed at intervals in
the seams running along the roof. Gone are the days of multifit roofracks
as everyone spaces their mounts differently. Rhino already have roof bars
for the NM Pajero so it was very easy to tailor a roof rack table to fit
straight on this vehicle. Here we show this stylish rack on the Pajero and
in its other format as a camping table. When not on the vehicle it can serve
numerous tasks around the home or yard and the roof bars can be used for
other purposes as well. If height is a problem they unclip from the vehicle
in a few minutes
$795.
